We passed camp after camp of Marines...

Wednesday, August 1, 1917:

Gondricourt, 2010
Started again this morning at 7 A.M. in the rain. More good roads and pretty country. Johnnie again drove a good share of the day. Have been passing American troops practically all day. From Gondricourt on we passed camp after camp of Marines. They are mostly located in the smaller villages and live in houses and barracks. The Marines are a fine looking crowd. They are clean, big, strong and look exceedingly well drilled. They wear a very dark brown uniform with lighter colored leggings. At Ligny-en-Barrois we parked our cars in an auto park under the trees and spent the night. Some of the boys slept in a house, but most of us stuck to our cars. I have grown very fond of my cot-stretcher.
